A former New Jersey police chief who once compared black people to ISIS faces a hate crime charge and a federal civil rights charge.

Frank Nucera Jr., former chief of Bordentown Township Police Department, was arrested by FBI agents on Wednesday in connection to an incident that occurred last year where Nucera allegedly slammed a black teen’s head into a metal doorjamb while he was in custody, according to a report from Huffington Post.

The assault took place back on September 1, 2016, when a hotel manager called police on the victim and a 16-year-old black girl who was with him, because they had not paid for their hotel room the night before and were swimming in the hotel pool. The encounter with police “escalated into a physical struggle,” with Nucera ultimately slammed the victim’s head “into the right side of the metal doorjamb.”

Hours after the assault, Nucera was recorded telling another officer he was “f**king tired” of black people.

“I’ll tell you what, it’s gonna get to the point where I could shoot one of these motherfuckers,” Nucera allegedly said. “…I’m so tired of them, man.”

In a separate incident from November 2015, a report detailed how Nucera wished a black person from Trenton who he believed slashed the tires of a cop car would give him a reason to “put my hands” on him.

“These ni**ers are like ISIS, they have no value,” Nucera allegedly said. “They should line them all up and mow ’em down. I’d like to be on the firing squad, I could do it. I used to think about if I could shoot someone or not, I could do it, I’m tired of it.”

Each charge Nucera faces carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
