It’s no secret that Kourtney Kardashian and her ex-boyfriend Scott Disick have a complicated relationship. The former couple — who have three children together — remain somewhat close despite seeing other people.
Their relationship is not always smooth sailing, however.
Before their trip, Kourtney tells Khloe that she woke up to a text from a friend about Scott saying that “he needs to go to rehab” and that he’s “in a downward spiral.” Kourtney said she was in a “panic” after seeing the text, and that she’s “concerned about his health.”
Although it’s unclear exactly what “addiction” Scott was dealing with, he has openly struggled with alcohol addiction in the past, and it has been a sore point in his relationship with Kourtney on previous seasons of “KUWTK.”
“I keep hearing that he’s out of control,” Kourtney told Khloe in the latest episode, adding that she keeps getting calls from friends who are afraid that Scott is “not gonna make it to his birthday.” A flashback also showed Kourtney on the phone to a good friend who was concerned about Scott a week before. “He feels like I give him more attention when he’s f—– up,” she told them.
Later, Kourtney said that even though she’s worried about Scott, she hasn’t contacted him this time. “I’m trying to break the cycle of always being there,” she said. “I just feel like I need to change it up and see if that makes any difference.”
Talking to Khloe, Kourtney admitted that despite believing that “he needs to help himself,” she feels “helpless.” “It’s just stressful because he is my kids’ father and I just want him to be healthy and happy, but I don’t think I need to sacrifice my own happiness,” she said.
It’s not the first time that Scott’s addiction has affected Kourtney, but it seems she’s determined to handle the situation differently this time. “We’ve been in the same pattern, even though we’re not together, for 10 years plus,” she told Khloe. “If there was something I could do to help Scott, you know, help his situation or his addiction, I would do it in a heartbeat, but I’ve learned that it’s beyond my control and I’ve accepted that.”
While Kourtney was away, her sister Kim Kardashian West visited Scott to reassure her sister that he was OK. While Scott confessed that he has been “out of control” at times, he seems to be surprised that there’s a problem on Kourtney’s end. “We all know that I have times where I definitely am out of control, but you can tell Kourtney to have a good weekend and rest assured that I’m fine,” he told Kim.
In May, around the same time Sunday’s episode of “KUWTK” was filmed, a TMZ report cited sources close to Scott that say he was “hitting the bottle hard” and was “in a downward spiral” after finding out about Kourtney’s relationship with Younes Bendjima.
The preview for the next episode of “KUWTK” shows Kourtney with her new boyfriend at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. The clip also shows some of Scott’s reaction to their appearance together, as Kourtney says, “Scott’s threatening me, he’s like, ‘your little friend’s gonna get beat up.'”
While we’ll have to wait until the next episode to see more of Scott’s reaction, the former couple prove that exes need boundaries, even when they’re raising kids together.
