Williams has joined UK startup ROLI as Chief Creative Officer where he will “develop revolutionary new musical instruments that are iconic, digitally connected, and accessible to all.” The partnership will be long-term, with Williams investing in the company and as well as serving as a co-owner.

“Music touches all of us, and for a long time I’ve been passionate about finding ways to share the power of music with more people,” Williams said in a statement. “When I met Roland and ROLI, I immediately felt we were working towards exactly the same goals, and so I’m super excited that we’re kicking off this partnership.”

“Our mission is to empower everyone to create music, and more broadly to empower people as creators. Pharrell is not just an extraordinary musician, he embodies creativity,” Roland Lamb, founder of ROLI, said. “His ideas will take us in exciting new directions, and we’re thrilled to share our first collaboration — the ‘Happy by Pharrell’ studio pack — today.”

The studio pack, which can be downloaded for free via ROLI’s NOISE app, allows users to experiment with Williams’ hit song “Happy.” From the vocals and beats to the basslines, the pack shows the ins and outs of the song and also encourages users to make the track their own.

Williams’ funk-rock group N.E.R.D., will be reuniting soon at this year’s ComplexCon. The show will be their first in three years.
