RZA filed a trademark opposition suit against Woof-Tang Clan, stating that the company’s mark was “highly similar” to the Wu-Tang Clan mark in “sight, sound and commercial impression,” according to a report from Rolling Stone. He also stated that the company “falsely suggests a connection” with the Wu-Tang Clan and argued the name is “likely to cause confusion, cause mistake, or to deceive consumers to falsely believe” the Brooklyn business has some association with the rap collective.

The owner of Woof-Tang Clan, Marty Cuatchon, filed a trademark application on June 8. However, court papers stated that the application was in violation of the multiple registrations already owned by the Wu-Tang Clan. According to a report from the New York Daily News, Cuatchon is aware of RZA’s suit but declined to comment on the situation until speaking with a lawyer.

However, he did say, “I am a fan. We walk dogs. I thought it was a good idea.”

A month ago, Wu-Tang, alongside longtime producer Mathematics, dropped Wu-Tang: The Saga Continues. The 18-track release, which served as the group’s first new album in three years (aside from their $2 million Once Upon a Time in Shaolin album that was bought by Martin Shkreli) featured appearances from most of the group including Method Man, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon, and Ghostface Killah.
